Tone &amp; Edits:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;&nbsp;<\/strong>Reviewing articles on our site before submitting work will help you write to our audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;<\/strong> Write using your own personal style. You can use a personal story to draw the reader in. (a personal <em>style<\/em>, however, that doesn\u2019t mean that the <em>substance <\/em>is casually researched). If you like something, be detailed. If you are negative, be fair. Always begin from the ground up: <em>who, what, where, why, when. <\/em>Keep it accessible\u2014don\u2019t assume that the reader is already familiar with the topic of your story. Don\u2019t dumb it down\u2014feel free to go in-depth\u2014just define and explain as you go, and keep it fun or serious as appropriate. Include a call to action that benefits the life of the reader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;U<\/strong>sing \u201cyou\u201d in an article or title tends to separate the writer from the reader and can appear disconnected or preachy.&nbsp;Instead, try to think\/write in terms of \u201cwe\u201d and \u201cus,\u201d which unifies the reader and writer. It becomes a journey that we\u2019re on together rather than an expedition that only you are qualified to lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;<\/strong><em>&nbsp;If you have submitted for editorial review expect edits. <\/em>This doesn\u2019t mean that your article isn\u2019t already great\u2014but we may need to make adjustments to your work so that it fits better with our audience and\/or to fit our layout, particularly if your submission is on the long side. This includes images! We want to include your images where possible, but we reserve the right to choose what we use for final publication, for aesthetic reasons and\/or copyright issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>~<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3<\/strong><strong>. (Unless it is the first word in a sentence: Eighty years ago.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;&nbsp;<\/strong>Please use the oxford comma.&nbsp;(The comma after the last item in a list and before the \u201cand\u201d or \u201cor.\u201d)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt; <\/strong><em>Indent<\/em> using the block quote button in the toolbar, rather than only <em>italicizing<\/em> long quotes (from scripture, for example) within articles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;&nbsp;<\/strong>Do not credit a quote by placing the person\u2019s name at the end of the quote with a dash before it. Use a ~ and keep the name in the same paragraph as the quote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;&nbsp;<\/strong>B.K.S. Iyengar not BKS Iyengar; a.m. not am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;&nbsp;<\/strong>Put a period at the end of every title <em>in<\/em> the title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;&nbsp;<\/strong>Credit a photo like this: Photo: [name] (Again, make sure to use non-copyrighted images you own or found through photo sharing sites like Unsplash, Flickr Creative Commons, or Wikimedia.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;&nbsp;<\/strong>Always <em>italicize<\/em> and explain first use of foreign words. Exp: \u201cIt\u2019s a difficult <em>asana <\/em>(yoga pose).\u201d Exp: \u201cIt\u2019s a difficult <em>asana<\/em>, or yoga pose.\u201d Exceptions: if in common usage (yoga, karma, Buddha, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;<\/strong>Vocabulary: in order to spread the good word beyond the close community, to the masses, make sure new terms are linked to a site that you find by doing a google search. Linking yoga terms or Buddhist vocabulary to <em>Sweat Equity <\/em>articles, for example, will be easy to do. The link does not have to define the term, but can portray the meaning of it through articles telling a story. Remember\u2014you can\u2019t assume that everyone knows what you\u2019re talking about!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;<\/strong> Do <em>not<\/em> put words in ALL CAPS&nbsp;or <strong>bold<\/strong> for emphasis, <em>please italicize<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;<\/strong> Spell out the word \u201cand\u201d in the article. Do not use &amp;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;<\/strong>&nbsp;Screamin should be screamin\u2019\u2026any slang like that, put an apostrophe on the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;<\/strong> Online, it\u2019s best to break up long paragraphs. It makes longer posts easier on the eye and less intimidating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt;<\/strong> Always include a subtitle (makes your post more searchable on google).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>&gt;&gt;<\/em><\/strong><em> Read up on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?client=firefox-b-d&amp;q=libel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">libel<\/a>\u2014we take this seriously, and you should too.<br><\/em><strong><br>&gt;&gt;&nbsp;<\/strong>Read up on plagiarism\u2014we take this seriously, too.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>&gt;&gt;<\/em><\/strong><em> If you want to quote, excerpt, or source direct information at any point ever, read more about fair use <a href=\"http:\/\/fairuse.stanford.edu\/overview\/fair-use\/what-is-fair-use\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/gsas.columbia.edu\/content\/copyrighted-material-and-doctrine-fair-use\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt; <\/strong>Please proofread your article before submission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perfection is not required but please do take time to read your work more than once before submitting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>6<\/strong><strong>.
