Are you a Polymath when it comes to movement and training? Don’t fit into one box? Can’t just do one sport or one discipline? We don’t blame you. It’s about time we acknowledge the skill-set of being a neo-generalist, a master of many. In this day in age, we have the capacity to explore and express ourselves across many disciplines. As a result, the idea of ‘athleticism’ is making a breakthrough to many fields. A true athlete is a holistic master. Someone who has a deep understanding of the physical, mental, and emotional. This hybrid human is possible due to the advancement of technology, techniques, and time spent developing a higher level of conscious awareness.

Here are 4 competencies of this athletic workout:

  1. Competency 1 – Poly-Patterning
  2. Competency 2 – Multi-Device
  3. Competency 3 – Sling Systems
  4. Competency 4 – Push Pull Forces

We are a product of our ever-changing and evolving environments. With a bountiful landscape of resources and data, it is our duty to honor and celebrate these advancements with the fullest expression of this availability. Here is a set of exercises that demonstrate 4 competencies to this progression in performance to indoor gym training. The first competency is Poly-Patterning: multi-joint, multi-dimensional, and multi-plane movement patterns. The second competency is Multi-Device: exploiting the use of various stimuli via various devices will produce variability and versatility within the athlete. The third competency is Sling Systems: advancing the idea of functional core training by way of full body synergistic, systemic, and integrative exercising. The fourth competency is respecting the Law of Opposites by way of Push Pull Forces. Within each exercise, to maximize the closed-loop biomechanical system of the body, co-contractive and counter-contractive forces are applied. By being conscious of the complex interconnection of the human body, we advance away from segmental part by part training, and shift towards complex training patterns for progression. The environments we live in are complex, interconnected ecosystems, so we must adapt with synergistic protocols and programming in order to manifest our truest potential.
