Eckhart Tolle From Meek to Mighty

Up until age 29, German-born Canadian resident, Eckhart Tolle (pronounced “toe lay”), was a far cry from the man we know today. The son of a journalist and housewife, Tolle’s life was typically unremarkable. He describes himself as having been a “meek and obedient” child, driven by generalized anxiety and fear. This free-floating anxiety would follow Tolle throughout his life, with his depression escalating at times to the extent that suicide seemed a viable escape. But all of that went away following his profound moment of awakening
In no uncertain terms, Tolle defines the root of all mental anguish to be “identification with the mind.” The first of 196 yoga sutras, the primary text on the science of self-realization, states “cittavrttinirodha,” which roughly translates to mean, “Yoga is what you experience when the mind stops its chatter.”Yoga is the union of mind, body, and spirit into a single entity, at a single moment in time, in fact the only moment that exists, a moment that Tolle calls NOW.
Humble to a fault, Tolle has sold more books than almost any other spiritual author, is considered Oprah Winfrey’s favourite guru, and has been dubbed “the most spiritually influential person in the world”—a title passed on by the Watkins Review.
The man is larger than life, but his message is short and sweet: slow down, take a deep breath, and feel the earth beneath your feet, and just BE. Sound familiar?
Spiritual Giant
Tolle took enlightenment out of the Himalayas and dropped it into our own backyard, no more than an arm’s reach away. He busted the myth that you need to be really old, really hairy, and clad in a white robe to experience “higher consciousness.” Through his video messages, audiotapes, books, lectures, and meditations, Tolle taught millions of people around the globe that we can have inner peace—indeed, that we already are at peace and content, but have lost touch with our true nature. The Power of Now is our reminder.
Right here, right NOW, joy is yours for the taking.
