Breathe In, Giving Back

Covid-19 remains the most talked about health crisis of today, but cancer diagnosis continues to rise. In fact, 617 Canadians will be told they have cancer today alone.

The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the top five in the world, continues to pioneer world leading cancer research while The Princess Margaret Foundation has once again placed itself on the forefront of fundraising innovation to ensure we all can help see that life-saving research through.

Meet The DIY Challenge

In times of crisis, we often find ourselves asking: what can I do? “If I’m not working on the frontlines, can I adequately respond to another’s illness? If I do not have financial means or political power, can I really make a difference?” The answer is yes, because The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (The PMCF) has created The DIY Challenge, making it easier than ever for everyone and anyone to roll up their sleeves and make a real difference.

The best part is, whatever you love to do can quickly become your DIY Challenge and with a little creativity and effort, your special talent can contribute to conquering cancer here in Toronto and all the way around the world! There are no fundraising minimums, no registration fees involved, and all proceeds raised will be directed towards the cancer research area of your choice.

With DIY anything goes.

You can do anything you’d like to help make a difference. Ride a bike to raise awareness, walk your favourite routes to remember, teach a yoga class to show support, add a splash of colour to your hair, get muddy in the garden and watch the funds grow! Just do something you already like doing, when it best suits your schedule, and we will all stay united through the collective desire to conquer cancer.

There have already been book club lectures, knitting circles, stationary bike races and even mahjong tournaments making a substantial impact. It is a wonderful way to give your hobby a new sense of purpose and a terrific way to stay busy while living in lockdown with a full house. Who knows, a virtual checkers tournament or sidewalk bake sale might be the ticket to teaching an invaluable life lesson in kindness.

All ideas are valued, and every contribution counts because whatever you do will help the thousands of doctors, researchers and patients who are working tirelessly to end this disease for good.

Stop asking. Start answering. Roll up your sleeves and start a DIY today.
