Summer is finally here and after a long, cold winter, get outside as much as possible and take advantage of the sunshine, Vitamin D, fresh oxygen, and being in nature to soothe the nervous system. You don’t have to be in the gym or studio to be healthy. Take advantage of your outdoor surroundings…go explore, move, sweat, and try new things. Not only does being outdoors increase vitality and health, but it is a great way to get to know your city or town!
1) Move your body while connecting to the peace and tranquility of nature. You can bike, swim, run, rollerblade, kayak, canoe, or hike. Grab some friends and play a game of baseball, frisbee, basketball, tennis, golf, mini golf, or try out some batting cages.
2) Dance! Summertime brings so many outdoor music festivals. Jam out to your favourite band, or go listen to some music you’ve never heard before. Try something new! There’s nothing like dancing to your favourite beats in warm weather, under the sun or the stars,
3) Take a walk at sunrise or sunset. If you have the opportunity to watch the sun rise or set, then do it whenever you can. These times of the day are magical and are a powerful time to express gratitude for being a part of this universe.
4) Go to the beach. Go for a swim, play in the water, try beach volleyball, do some yoga in the sand, or just go for a walk. Being on the sand and near water provides lovely opportunities to connect with the earth’s energies while moving your body and enjoying the weather.
5) Enjoy a picnic. Go to your local farmer’s market, pick out some tasty local organic foods, bring a soft blanket and a good book, and go to a beautiful spot. Take the time to enjoy your food and enjoy the scenery. Take a nap while you’re there!
6) Plant some love. Plant some flowers or a garden. Get outside, whether your backyard or your balcony, and plant something to nourish your body and soul. Enjoy the fruits of your labour through your taste buds and sight.
7) Wash your car. Crank your favourite tunes and have some fun washing and shining your car under the sun. Don’t be afraid to get wet, sing along, and shake your booty!
TIPS for summer in the sun
Stay hydrated. Hot summer weather and more physical activity increase the body’s need for water. Start your morning with a huge glass of water to stimulate your thirst mechanism. Staying properly hydrated ensures a faster metabolism.
Increase raw foods. Have fun with new recipes! It’s easier to eat raw, cold foods when the weather is warmer. Plus, they keep your metabolism revved up and energy high. Try smoothies, fresh juices, gazpachos, colourful salads, nut pates with veggies, and even raw desserts.
